The West Valley Symphony is expecting a capacity crowd for an exciting Hollywood
Meets Broadway concert on January 24th. The concert will feature melodies
by show business legends such as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Cole Porter,
and Leonard Bernstein. Maestro Cal Stewart Kellogg will lead the full
orchestra in a performance of audience favorites from “The King and I”, “The
Sound of Music”, “West Side Story” and other hit productions.
“Listening to these timeless melodies is a wonderful way to spend a
Sunday afternoon. The audience is in for a real treat,” says Barbara Lashmet,
Vice President of the Symphony’s Board of Trustees. “Ticket sales have
been brisk since we announced this program in September, and we may well
see a sell-out crowd.”
The concert begins at 3:00PM at Faith Presbyterian Church, 16000 North Del
Webb Blvd. in Sun City. Tickets are $25 for adults and youth (18 years
and under) tickets are available for $15. All seating is general admission.

The West Valley Symphony 2009-2010 season will conclude on March 14 with
guest artist Tessa Gotman performing Brahms’ Concerto for Violin during the
Melodic Masterpieces program.
In addition to its concert series, the Symphony and Rio Salado College’s
RISE Learning for Life have developed for the first time a series of educational
and fun events. On January 15th, Maestro Kellogg will lead attendees in a
program titled “A Day at the Opera”. The session will get underway at 10:00am
with a discussion of Opera history and development. A break after the
morning session will offer participants an opportunity to support Interfaith
by visiting Birt’s Bistro and Bookstore, located next door on the Interfaith
Campus. Birt’s offers specialty coffees, freshly made sandwiches and
salads. At 1:00pm, participants will reconvene to hear a performance
by some up and coming young opera singers from Arizona Opera’s Marion Roose
Pullin Opera Studio. The final community event will take
place March 5th and will explore rhythms. Both community events are free
and open to the public. Seating is limited, however; to sign up call RISE

at 12535 W. Smokey Drive in Surprise.
