SYMPHONY READY FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 17th CONCERT

February 8, 2008:  The West Valley Symphony is all set to bring its classical music to life in our communities once again after a two-year hiatus. Some 45 professional and skilled musicians will take the stage at 3 pm on Sunday February 17th at Faith Presbyterian Church, 16000 N. Del Webb Blvd. in Sun City.

“The musicians are as excited as we are to be able to perform for our communities again.  We hope to see our former patrons – and many new music lovers - in the audience for this very special concert.” says Fred Berkenkamp, Trustee.

“We’re offering wonderful music again in the West Valley. We have a full symphonic orchestra with an exciting new conductor. And we’re performing in a smaller, more intimate setting that provides excellent acoustics,” Berkenkamp added.

This concert returns a local favorite to the stage.  Concertmaster Cathy Worcester (photo attached) performs regularly at functions in the community and as a result is quite well known to many of the Symphony’s patrons.  Ms. Worcester has played with the Phoenix Symphony, Arizona Opera and the Symphony of the Southwest (Mesa Symphony).  She studied at Boise State University and locally at Arizona State University. Ms. Worcester holds a Master of Music Degree in Violin Performance from Indiana University and is co-owner of Mesa Violin Studios.  She resides in Mesa with her husband Richard, who teaches strings for Mesa Public Schools.

Under the leadership of Maestro Warren Cohen and Concertmaster Cathy Worcester, the orchestra will perform a Valentine’s Day oriented concert themed “Celebration of Romance, Aspects of Love”.   Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 2 and Mozart’s Overture to Cosi Fan Tutte are on the program.  Mr.  Ilia Ulianitsky, recent Gold Medal winner in the USASU International Schimmel Piano Competition at Arizona State University, will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21.

Tickets may be purchased ahead of time, call 623.236.6781 for information.  Tickets will also be available at the door.  Cost is $25 per adult, and $15 for students under age 18.

The Symphony performs a second concert on April 13, 2008 at Willow Canyon High School Performing Arts Auditorium in Surprise.  Tickets, priced at $25, $15 for students call 623.236.6781 for more information.  Tickets will be available at the door on concert day.
